about the project
The bALLAD OF MALLORY OPFER EXPLORES THE EXPERIENCES OF WOMEN TRAPPED IN ABUSIVE MARRIAGES AND THE PYSCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF THE ADJaCENT TRAUMA; wE FOLLOW MALLORY AS SHE RETREATS INTO HER OWN MIND TO ESCAPE HER CRUEL REALITY.
aLONGSIDE DOMESTIC ABUSE, THE FILM EXPOSES THE MENTAL DISORDER KNOWN AS ‘MALADAPTIVE DAYDREAMING’ WHICH CAUSES THE INDIVIDual to spend up to eight hours per day creating intricate storylines, disconnected from their real life.
The project uses a blend of gritty realism and surrealist fairytale sequences to capture the duality of mallory’s mind. Through the ambitious feat of filming without faces, Notice experiments with the power of symbolism to immerse the audience into a truly unique experience.
The project premiered on the 30th of january at the old court, windsor, and was entirely youth-led, aiming to push the limits of independent cinema.
